About The Elliott Family
Welcome to the site!

I made a start on putting the family tree up here.. thanks to my brother
Nick, who sent me a copy of his notes, and my cousin Jonathan who sent me his
information!

I keep adding info from time to time as I find it, and of course, more research is
needed, and certificates, etc., etc. Oh, and time would be nice too!

Other people who have sent information (and the information is noted as such) are:
- Martin Abbott (my scond cousin once removed), through Genes Reunited
- Ian and Maureen Barber (my first cousin, once removed), through Genes Reunited
- Christine Doye-Ward (Her husband Andy is my 6th cousin, three times removed),
through Genes Reunited

If you are a member of the family, and see a mistake here, then contact me on
the link in the section above and let me know!

I hope you find this site interesting!

I've used a couple of abbreviations for surnames where I do not know the
actual surname:

- "(marr) xxx": man's surname is unknown, so I have used the wife's maiden name
(i.e. someone who married into the family)
- "xxx (marr)": woman's maiden name is unknown, so I have used her married name
(if she married more than once, the marriage into my family tree is used)
- "xxx (mat.)": child's surname is unknown. I have used the mother's maiden
surname.
- "xxx (mat. (marr))": child's surname is unknown. Mother's maiden name is also
unknown, so her married surname is used. (if she married more than once, the
marriage into my family tree is used)

Obviously, when I find the correct surname, I will update it on the site!

Finally, I dedicate this site to the memory of the members of the family who died
in the Great War:
- Private JAMES LOCKHEART ASHTON
PO/9947,Royal Marine Light Infantry, HMS Bayano (sunk off Carswell Point,
Stranraer by U27) who died on 11 March 1915 (born 1881)
- Private ALFRED PELHAM PEACHEY 13961, 14th Bn.,
Hampshire Regiment who died on 26 September 1917 (The Battle of Polygon Wood, during
the Battle of Ypres) (born 1895)
- Private HARRY THOMAS JAMES PEACHEY 23010, 1st
Bn., Hampshire Regiment who died on 23 October 1916 (The Battle of Le Transloy,
during the Battle of the Somme) (born 1891)
- Private GEORGE HENRY WINDLEY 41885, 15th Bn.,
Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) who died on 20 October 1917 (The Battle
of Passchendaele) (born 1891)

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
